Cat Water Fountain Leaking? What to Check

A small puddle around a fountain is usually easy to trace. Here’s what to check when yours seems to be leaking.

Overfilling

Filling above the maximum line can cause water to escape, especially as the pump circulates it. Fill to the marked level, not the brim.

Assembly and seals

If parts aren’t seated correctly after cleaning, water can find a way out. Take it apart and reassemble carefully, making sure any seals or the lid are properly aligned.

Splash, not a leak

Sometimes it isn’t a leak at all — a strong stream or a cat that paws at the water can splash over the edge. Lowering the flow (if adjustable) or moving the fountain onto a mat solves this.

Cracks

Inspect for any cracks in the reservoir, particularly if it has been dropped. A damaged reservoir needs replacing.

Prevention

Fill to the line, reassemble carefully after each clean, and sit the fountain on a wipeable surface or mat for peace of mind.
