How Much Cat Fountain Water Evaporation Is Normal?

Evaporation is expected
A fountain constantly moves water and exposes a large surface area to the air, so some evaporation is completely normal — more so in warm, dry or air-conditioned rooms.
Why moving water evaporates more
Circulating water and a wide drinking surface speed evaporation compared with a covered bowl. This is a trade-off for the fresh, moving water cats like.
When to look closer
If the level drops dramatically or suddenly, check for a leak, overfilling, or splashing rather than assuming evaporation alone.
Managing it
Top up regularly so the pump never runs dry, and keep the fountain out of direct sun and hot draughts. In summer, expect to refill more often.
